DFI Helical Foundation & Tieback Conference Attendees Presented with Project Update from Acceptance Criteria Consultant

By Rich Davis

Engineers, helical pier manufacturers and contractors attending the recent DFI Helical Foundation & Tieback Conference in Newark (www.dfi.org) listened with interest to a presentation on the status of the Acceptance Criteria (AC) development project for the International Code Council (www.icc-es.org).  The presentation was given by Robin Dornfest, PG, an engineering geologist with CTL/Thompson (www.ctlt.com), which is the firm hired by the Ad Hoc Committee of Helical Foundation Manufacturers (CHFM) to assist with the development process.  CTL/Thompson engineer and regional manager, Dr. Howard Perko (HPW Technical Review Panel Member) is the lead developer and manger of the project, but he could not be present at the conference due to a conflicting engagement.

As presented by Dornfest, the project is moving into the final stages of the process.  As reported previously by HPW, the AC was unanimously approved by the CHFM in July of this year and submitted to ICC-ES.  The engineering staff at ICC-ES has been reviewing the AC since that time and communicating with Dr. Perko as needed.  The projected timeline calls for the AC to be posted on the ICC-ES website for public viewing shortly after the first of the year with final voting for acceptance slated for the February 2007 meeting.

Once the AC is approved, helical pier manufacturers will be submitting applications to ICC-ES for their products.  HPW will continue to follow and report on this important industry event.
